Investing in Memories: Monett Kiwanis Continues Decades of Support for Barry County Youth Camp

There are some traditions that truly define the spirit of a community, and the partnership between the Monett Kiwanis Club and the Barry County Youth Camp (BCYC) is undoubtedly one of them. For decades, these two organizations have worked hand in hand to ensure that every child in our area has the chance to experience the magic of summer camp, regardless of their financial circumstances.

This legacy of giving reached another wonderful milestone on April 22 of this year, when members of the Monett Kiwanis Club presented a $2,000 check to the Barry County Youth Camp. This donation is more than just a financial gift; it represents the club's unwavering commitment to "improving the world one child and one community at a time."

A 60-Year Legacy of Impact

The timing of this donation is particularly special as the Barry County Youth Camp celebrates its 60th Anniversary. Since its founding in 1965, BCYC has been a beacon of hope for children aged 7–11. Held at Camp Smokey within Roaring River State Park, the camp provides a week of outdoor adventure, crafts, and nutritious meals—all free of charge for qualifying campers.

BCYC Director Sarah Pfitzner-Mindack recently shared that the camp is a place where children can "grow, explore, and simply be kids." However, providing this experience is only possible through the generosity of local civic groups like Kiwanis. With the cost of sponsoring a single camper sitting at approximately $200, this latest $2,000 contribution from the Monett Kiwanis will directly fund the summer adventures of ten local children.

More Than Just a Check

The Monett Kiwanis Club’s support for BCYC goes far beyond an annual check presentation. Throughout the year, Kiwanis members dedicate their time and energy to various fundraisers—from the annual Spring Thaw Disc Golf Tournament at South Park to their sponsorship of the Culpepper & Merriweather Circus. Every dollar raised through these community events helps ensure that charitable work for kids in our community stays strong.

Join the Mission

As we look forward to another successful summer at Barry County Youth Camp, we celebrate the Monett Kiwanis Club for their "Kids Need Kiwanis" spirit. Their long-term dedication is a reminder that when a community invests in its youth, the returns—in the form of confidence, friendship, and lifelong memories—are priceless.
