Barry County Youth Camp & Monett Kiwanis

For many years the Monett Kiwanis Club has been a primary sponsor of the Barry County Youth Camp (BCYC). This wonderful program provides a week-long summer camp experience for kids. The 60 to 100 "happy campers" are from 6-10 years of age and from low-income households.

The BCYC has some unique features tailored to the campers it serves like every camper being given a free pair of athletic shoes and a "shopping spree" from the free shop they have at check-in. "every kid at camp gets the shoes and clothes they need for camp, but some of the poorest kids know these shoes will be their back to school gear too" said long-time camp staffers.

The Monett Kiwanis Club presented this worthy program with a check for $3761.00 at our meeting on June 20th. We awarded the BCYC all of the proceeds from our longstanding and perennially successful Kiwanis Golf Tournament from last year. This year's tournament is coming up later this summer. The Monett Kiwanis Club plans to continue our support of the BCYC for many years to come.
